Mom's weight, fitness affects newborn's fatness

It says here that people with more body fat have children that have more body fat. Furthermore, mothers that walk slowly have children that walk slowly.

Now I haven't done a study lately, but I have another thing they could check: if the mother has dark hair, will the child have dark hair? I have no idea!

What does 'heredity' mean? What is DNA? I like cake!

Thanks Dr. Cyrus Cooper at the University of Southampon! (send him mail to congratulate him). Maybe he'll win an award!

By the way, Dr. Cooper really has some clever ideas:

Along with not smoking, women should exercise regularly and maintain a healthy weight through a balanced diet before and during pregnancy, Cooper advised.

(presumably after the child is born, you can go all dunkin' donuts on life)
